Beavering around at Fradley Junction

WOW Volunteer Jayne Graham leads education visits at Fradley Nature Pool at the junction of the Trent & Mersey Canal and the Coventry Canal.

End June and beginning July has been a busy time for me at Fradley Junction with two evening trips for the cubs and beavers arranged.

As a new volunteer it was new territory for me to take these two groups on the "Birds and Habitats" treasure hunt around Fradley pool - but I loved it and got some great feedback. The children, albeit very excitable, were great and really interested in finding the clues and reading all about the different wildlife that can be found around the pool.

With the cubs we also found time for a quick pond dipping session - which unfortunately was cut short by rain!

Both trips have ended at the bird hide where the boys made full use of the binoculars to see the birds closer to hand. We finished by issuing the little Stay SAFE near water activity booklet and book marks. At the start the boys learned how to shout very loudly SAFE (Stay Away From the Edge) and both trips ended with a big thank you to me and a loud SAFE being shouted from the roof tops. I know the boys enjoyed themselves but I secretly think the accompanying adults did too - I certainly did!
