Martha's WOW experience
I am a second year History and Culture student at Warwick University.
I was looking for some work experience over the summer, and someone suggested that, as I live locally and am interested in canals, I could volunteer with British Waterways at their Hatton office.
I have spent a highly enjoyable fortnight volunteering with the WOW Education Team, producing topic packs and re-writing some of their educational resources. As a history student, the research this involved was right up my street! I have written a topic pack on ‘Rivers’, and undertaken research on Droitwich for a post-restoration fact-file.
I hope to eventually work with the Diplomatic Service, and my work with the WOW team has allowed me to hone my research skills, as well as respond to the challenge of producing materials to a brief within a time-limit.
I have had a wonderful time, thanks in no small part to the friendly and inclusive nature of the team in the office. My thanks go to Gill, Jo, Karen, Sarah, and Vicki for being so helpful – and for many cups of tea! I hope to be able to return in the future.
